Our Background

MAGRA stands for Miserable Abandoned Groups Redemption Agency

This is a non profit making organization aiming at "restoring the lost hope" by providing medical care, clothing, feeding, education and improving on the standards of vulnerable and orphaned children in Kabale district in the Rwanda-Uganda boarders. This organization started a school and an orphanage home that is currently helping 104 less fortunate children. The organization was started due to the increasing number of vulnerable and orphaned children in the area.this was a result of; Death of parents due to wars, HIV/AIDS and normal death Child neglect due to pre-Marital sex and early pregnancies

The 1994 Rwanda genocide left many people dead, displaced, raped, and sexually abused in many ways both in Rwanda and neighbouring parts most particularly in Kabale district leading to an increase in number of abandoned, miserable, and orphaned children. in response to this therefore, it was deemed necessary to start suchlike organization..

Despite the government's effort to educate such children through Universal primary education (UPE) and universal secondary education (USE), it was still difficult for the children affected by the genocide, displaced, neglected and orphaned children to attain scholastic materials like books, pens, uniforms, and even food. it was found out that some children as young as 14 years taking care of families of more than four members, others are being taken care of very old grand parents More than 80yrs, this has left many vulnerable children unable to access education and other basic needs.

Much as the organization has tried to help out these children, it's still challenging where by getting regular meals, clothing, medical care, rent, scholastic materials, beddings and enough accommodation is very difficult as the number of vulnerable children is increasing rapidly. In addition, transportation of children to the orphanage and to school is very difficult. Our organization is also challenged by safe water shortage as children have to travel long distances to reach a water sources that are clean.

Through commitment, devotion and determination, we can restore hope in the lives of these children.

About the founder

MAGRA orphanage was founded by Rubarema Devis at 20 years in 2013.
"I was born in 1993 as the 5th child of 7 children. While my mother was pregnant with the seventh child, my father passed away. We both struggled to find education by selling off every property our father had left and we ended up in a miserable life."

Among the four brothers and two sisters who wished to complete their studies but failed, by God's grace through well wishers, he was the only one able to finish college and graduated as a professional primary school teacher. Following miserable life he faced as an orphan and the hardships he went through to get education, he realised that there were other a thousand unfortunate children like them. Through prayer and hard work, it only took him one year to get the little money he needed to atleast start an orphanage school.

He was always empowered by his usual statement: "where there is a vision, there is provision"
Devis in now happily married to Tayebwa Agatha and God has blessed them with two precious children Daisy and Salvation.

Natalie Says

We learned about MAGRA after connecting with Shelinah Mbabazi in Doha, Qatar. We chose to sponsor Savious and were blessed to be able to come visit her. We were so impressed with the work Rash was doing and the love that motivated him. Best of all we could see that Savious and the other children were happy and had great love for each other. We hope that all the children can find sponsors soon.
